Jobs vs. Careers for Projectors
In an ideal world, Projectors would make a living guiding other people to be the best versions of themselves. I often describe Projectors as fictional characters like Merlin from Camelot, Yoda from “Star Wars,” Mr. Miyagi from “The Karate Kid,” or Sister Mary Clarence from “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit.” What all of these characters have in common is that they teach others how to harness their gifts and strengths. Ironically, in between doing that work, they all go off and follow their own bliss in their free time. Yoda was chilling in a swamp until Luke needed help. Mr. Miyagi pruned bonsai trees and collected cars until Daniel-san asked to learn karate. Sister Mary Clarence was a Las Vegas headliner until the nuns from her past asked her to become a choir teacher..
In reality, Projectors make great project managers, teachers, coaches, and consultants. They also make great entertainers and artists, especially when their schedules are not rigorous or demanding.
As a Projector, you are naturally gifted to observe deeply, and notice the ineffiencies in any system or process. This also allows you to work efficiently and do quality work.
But, let’s be real – sometimes a Projector just needs a job to pay the bills. Or, sometimes a Projector is still on their own path to long-term career fulfillmnet, acquiring the very wisdom that they’ll need later on when they fully step into their role as a guide.
If you’re reading this and you’re thinking: ”I need to pay my bills, okay?” – I hear you. Let’s explore your options.
With your undefined Sacral Center, you’re not wired for endless tasks or long hours of implementation. Leave that for the Generators of the world. Instead, you thrive when given the space to delegate and focus on activities that align with our strengths and passions. Because you can work very efficiently, being stuck in a conventional 40-hour-per-week job will probably drain you, make you feel like you have to be hyper productive when you really don’t, and it may even make you feel a little bitter and resentful.
Speaking of draining your energy, it’s important to be mindful of your environment. Because Projectors have many undefined energy centers, you’re naturally sensitive to the vibes and dynamics of your work environment and coworkers. Be discerning about workplace dynamics and relationships, or you could also find yourself feeling exhausted, overworked, underappreciated and unrecognized.
If you’re seeking a temporary placeholder job while you’re on your path to career greatness, aim for low-stress, no-brainer positions that allow you to conserve your energy for pursuits outside of work. You are not designed to take your work home with you at the end of the work day. That’s going to conflict with your undefined energy centers. Instead, look for jobs that allow you to detach emotionally and mentally at the end of the day.
The Importance of Living Authentically Outside of Work
Projectors are unique in that your aura type thrives when you follow your bliss and live authentically on your own terms. Living authentically outside of work isn’t just about personal fulfillment—it also makes you a magnet for invitations for aligned career opportunities.
By pursuing and showcasing your talents and passions outside of the workplace, you open yourself up to invitations and opportunities that align with your natural gifts and talents. Remember, your strategy is to wait for invitations, which can include invitations for your dream job. The more you do what you love outside of work where others can see you, the more likely you are to receive an aligned job opportunity.
Many of my clients have said that every job they’ve ever gotten has come from a word-of-mouth referral or recommendation. This is not a coincidence. This is what it looks like when a Projector follows their bliss and aligns with their strategy.
Beyond the Aura: Exploring Your Chart
There are several places on your Human Design chart that you can explore to give you guidance for what type of career can make you feel the most successful.
Here is where you can look:
- Your Profile: In Human Design, your profile indicates your interpersonal and intrapersonal communication style. This can help you narrow down your search. For example, someone with a 1 / 3 profile would probably enjoy autonomous, research-based roles in spaces where trial and error are encouraged, whereas someone with a 4 / 6 profile may enjoy roles where networking and relationship-building are a large part of their duties.
- Your Energy Centers: You can gain deeper understanding into what work suits you and what your career trajectory can look like, as well as what drains and exhausts you by understanding the relationship of all your centers.
- Your Gates and Channels: Each Human Design gate is like an archetype of energy, with unique characteristics and qualities. For example, someone with Gate 18 or Gate 13 may find themselves gravitating towards roles where they hold space for others and listen to their problems or secrets, while someone with Gate 26 can find success as an influencer or salesperson. The channels that connect one gate from one center to a gate from another center can give you even more insight into your defined energetic characteristics
Conclusion
Two things can be true at the same time: 1) You need to survive in a capitalist system; 2) You deserve to earn a living easefully by being your authentic, powerful self. The key is to bridge the gap between those two truths so you can feel self-defined success each day.
Human Design is a great tool to help you understand your full potential and work with your energy, not against it.
